101TOKYO Contemporary Art Fair announces team for 2009

TOKYO, Japan / November 6, 2008

The 101TOKYO Contemporary Art Fair is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Jenkins as Director and Haruka Ito as Creative Director of 101TOKYO 2009. Mr. Jenkins is a freelance creative consultant who frequently writes about music and art. Ms. Ito is an independent curator and currently gallerist for Tokyo's magical, ARTROOM. Show management of 101TOKYO 2009 will be handled by Loufas Co. Ltd. (http://www.loufas.co.jp), an event production company experienced in organizing symposiums and trade shows for clients such as Worldwide Yamaha Motor Co., Warner Brothers, Rody and Catimini.

"Last year was proof that Tokyo is hungry for a small, jury-selected fair that concentrates on quality contemporary work created here in Japan as well as beyond our shores,'' says Jenkins. ''Our goal for 2009 is to build on last year's success by providing a place for creators, collectors and art lovers to discover new talent and new perspectives."

For the selection committee, a strong team of internationally focused, Tokyo-based art and design professionals have been chosen, including:

Tetsuya Ozaki, Editor-in-Chief/ART iT
Toshiko Ferrier, Art Consultant
Mami Kataoka, Senior Curator/Mori Art Museum
Shihoko Iida, Curator/Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery
Kosuke Tsumura, Fashion Designer/Final Home
Donald Eubank, Arts Editor/The Japan Times
Serge Mouangue, Conceptual Designer/Nissan

The 101TOKYO 2009 selection committee will meet over the next few weeks to process submissions and choose the galleries that will represent the best in emerging contemporary art. The fair will take place the first week of April, coinciding with Art Fair Tokyo and other exciting art events happening throughout the city. 101TOKYO is excited to continue the successes of last year with a program that showcases exciting trends happening across Asia and the world, while continuing to celebrate the young and increasingly vibrant contemporary art scene here in Tokyo. We hope you will mark your calendars and join us in the Spring for an exciting week of art in the metropolis.
