101TOKYO 2009 ANNOUNCES "101QUESTIONS"
TOKYO, Japan / March 26, 2009
The 101TOKYO Contemporary Art Fair is proud to announce the 101QUESTIONS Educational Program. 101TOKYO was founded as a way to explore the possibilities of the Japanese art world, and thus the fair will be holding six panel discussions addressing pressing issues in contemporary art. 101QUESTIONS will range from the simple, if not easy -- ''What is contemporary art?'' -- to the complex and long-term -- "How do we build a thriving scene for artists in Japan?"
Speakers will include renowned Japanese and international artists, gallerists and art-world professionals, as well as leaders in the fields of fashion and advertising, including Mark Collis, Executive Creative Director at Ogilvy Japan and Kenji Shiratsuchi, Exectutive Planning Designer at Dentsu. 101TOKYO is working in partnership with the United States
Embassy in Tokyo to bring both Sofia Hernandez Chong Guy (Curator-in-residence at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College) and Doryun Chong (Associate Curator of the Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota) from the U.S. to Tokyo in order to discuss how to best support contemporary art through public programs.
